CP Athletes leading hot start at Franklin-Pierce
The Ravens of Fanklin-Pierce University are off to a hot start during their trip to South Carolina to kick off the 2013 season. In their three wins, CP athletes have accumulated big hits and dozens of strikeouts. Check out the recaps below to see the damage #cpfamily did in Myrtle Beach over the past 48 hours:
Game 1 — Ryan Thompson earned a W in 8 innings of work. He allowed just 3 hits and struck out 14. Box
Game 2 — Matt Walsh drove in a pair of runs, including an extra-innings game winning single. Box
Game 3 — Trevor Graham earned a W and struck out 14 in just 6 innings of work. Box
College Baseball Returns
The 2013 NCAA Baseball season has begun and CP athletes are already off to a good start in some of the highest-profile collegiate conferences in the country. Have a look at some Opening Day highlights from the #cpfamily:
Travis Dean (Kennesaw State) earned an opening day win in a start for the Owls. Travis allows a single earned run on four hits through four innings of work. Full Recap
Sahil Bloom (Stanford) recorded a scoreless inning of work in his first appearance of 2013 for the Cardinal. Stanford was defeated 5-1 by #17-ranked Rice. Box Score
Mike Yastrzemski (Vanderbilt) was two for four at the plate with a pair of RBI and a run scored in an opening day win over visiting Long Beach State. Box Score
Jeff Burke (Boston College) threw a scoreless inning, retiring all three batters he faced in his collegiate debut. Boston College was defeated by Virginia Commonwealth University by a score of 4-1. Box Score

Kluber earns Win against the White Sox
Thanks to a strong start from Corey Kluber, the Tigers were able to move into a first place tie in the AL Central with the Chicago White Sox. Corey and the Indians beat Chicago 4-3 at U.S. Cellular Field on Tuesday. Corey worked seven strong innings, allowing just four hits while striking out four to get the win. Story
Langfield – Reds Pitcher of the Month for August
Dan Langfield (Reds A) was named Cincinnatti Reds Pitcher of the Month after posting a 1-0 record and a 0.52ERA over 17.1IP in August. Dan’s 30 strikeouts was good for fourth among all Pioneer League pitchers. Story

Corey Kluber Earns 1st MLB Win
Congratulations to CP athlete and Cleveland Indian Corey Kluber on his first MLB victory. Corey threw six strong innings, allowing 2ER in a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Wrap

Saves & K’s Piling Up in the CP Baseball Roundup
The CP baseball community was busy putting up good numbers this weekend. Here are some of the highlights:
- Steve Cishek (Marlins) earned his 8th and 9th saves on Friday and Saturday in wins over the Rockies. Stats
- Bryan LaHair (Cubs) was 1-3 with 2RBI, 2BB and 2SB in Saturday’s 9-7 win over the visiting Reds. Box
- Cory Gearrin (Braves AAA) struck out the side in consecutive one inning appearances. Stats
- Mike Dowd (Mariners A) was 3-4 at the plate with a double and 1RBI. Box
- Anthony Seratelli (Royals AAA) was 4-4 on the day with a run scored in a 5-3 Omaha win. Stats
- Dan Langfield (Reds A) was dominant in 3IP, piling up 7 strikeouts and just one walk and no hits. Box
MLB Debuts…Scoreless Innings Streaks…and MORE
This has been a big week for the CP baseball community. Today’s blog will highlight big league debuts, scoreless innings streaks and much more:
Chad Jenkins (Blue Jays) was promoted to the big league roster earlier this week, making the jump from AA to MLB. In his first appearance, Chad went 3 scoreless innings of relief, striking out 2. Stats
Steve Cishek (Marlins) is in the midst of a 17 inning streak of scoreless appearances. He has converted each of his 7 save opportunities since the all-star break and continues to impress in place of previous closer Heath Bell. Stats
Corey Kluber (Indians) was effective in his 2nd career MLB start, leaving after 6 innings of work with 1 run allowed. Despite departing the game in the position to earn a W, Corey went home empty-handed after a bullpen meltdown. Box
Tim Gustafson (Reds AAA) went 6.1 innings, allowing a single run in his 4th win of the season at the triple-A level. Tim has now allowed just 2ER in his last four appearances. Story

CP Athletes Strong in MLB Relief
CP athletes are getting the job done on the mound this week in MLB…
- On Tuesday, Tim Collins (Royals) tossed 2 scoreless innings of relief against the Indians. Box
- Last night, Cory Gearrin (Braves) continued the trend, going 2.1 scoreless (3k) in his first relief appearance since being called up earlier in the week to the big club. Box
- Despite Gearrin’s efforts to keep a 4-2 game within reach for the Braves, fellow CP athlete Steve Cishek (Marlins) closed out the win for Miami. Steve earned his 5th save of the season and has strung together 15 consecutive scoreless appearances. Box
- Tonight, Corey Kluber (Indians) will make his first big league start against the Royals at Kaufman Stadium. If all goes well, we may have the chance to see both Corey and Tim make contributions in the game. Preview

Tim Collins (Royals) tossed a scoreless inning of relief, striking out 2 to add to his total of 66 on the season. Tim is averaging 12.3 strikeouts per 9IP in 2012. Stats
John Andreoli (Cubs A) reached base in 4 of his 5 plate appearances, going 2-3 with a triple and a walk. John drove in 2 runs in the game. Box
