Mid-Week Minor League Review



With 100+ MiLB athletes in the CPfamily, it is borderline impossible to track the great performances for each and every one of them each day.  That being said, here’s a look at just a few solid stat lines from the past week:




Tommy Shirley (Astros AA) is off to a very strong start pitching for the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Texas League.  Through 3 starts, Tommy has a 2.03 ERA.  His 16:3 strikeout to walk ratio is certainly solid!  Stats


Jordan Jankowski (Astros AA) is holding his own out of the Hooks’ bullpen, featuring a 0.00ERA through three appearances, highlighted by nearly 1.5 strikeouts per inning.  Stats


Rafael Lopez (Cubs AA) is 5 for 8 with a double, 2RBI, 3BB and 1HR over the past 3 games.  Rafael is hitting .345 so far on the season for the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League.  Stats


Murphy Smith (A’s AA) has a 0.93 ERA out of the bullpen for the Midland Rockhounds of the Texas League.  Yesterday, Murphy worked 4 scoreless innings of relief.  Stats




CP Baseball Tuesday Roundup

Dan Houston (Rockies AA) and Murphy Smith (A’s AA) were both named Texas League All-Stars for their solid efforts thus far in 2012.  Congrats, guys.  Rosters

Jeremy Hazelbaker (Red Sox AA) was 2-5 with a HR.  He finished the day with 3RBI, a walk and 2 runs scored.  Box

Will Inman (Red Sox AAA) threw 2 scoreless innings of relief.  Will allowed a single hit and struck out 3. Box

Corey Kluber (Indians AAA) earned a win, tossing 6.1 innings and striking out 9.  Box

Chad Rodgers (Braves A) made his first appearance in over a year, going: 1IP, 2H, 0ER, 1K


Solid CP MiLB Performances on Wednesday

Craig Albernaz (Rays AAA), a catcher known more for his defensive skills, was 2-3 at the plate in a game that featured a rehab appearance for fellow CP athlete Kevin Youkilis (1-2 with a double).  Box

Murphy Smith (A’s AA) had a fantastic start in a 7-1 Midland Rock Hounds win over Frisco.  While he wasn’t in line for the win, Murphy impressed with 7.1ip, 5h, 1er and 3k’s.  His ERA is now down to a 2.76 on the season.  Box

Keith Bilodeau (Giants A) went 2.0 innings, allowing a run on 1 hit and striking out 3.  Box


CP Baseball Monday Round-Up

Cressey Performance Baseball Community Monday Round-Up:

Bryan LaHair (Cubs) continued his hot hitting streak, going 2-4 with a 2 run HR in a loss to the Phillies.  Bryan in now near the top of the NL in hitting with a .390 average.

John Andreoli (Cubs A-Advanced) was 2-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases in an 8-6 loss to the Lakeland Flying Tigers.  Box

For the third time in 2012, Shawn Haviland and Murphy Smith (A’s AA) combined to throw 9 innings for a win. Recap

Jeremiah Bayer (Red Sox A-Advanced) was impressive on the mound, going 3.1 innings and only allowing a single run.  Jeremiah impressed with 6 strikeouts in his short outing.

Jack Leathersich (Mets A) had a solid outling: 2IP, 0R, 1K

Keith Bilodeau (Giants A) was also steady on the mound: 1IP, 0R, 1K

Kevin Lacy (Framingham HS) hit a game-winning RBI double to lead Framingham past Brookline HS by a score of 1-0.  Kevin finished the day 2-3 at the plate.  Recap


Dominant Pitching in CP Wednesday Roundup

CP Baseball Community Highlights from Tuesday’s games:

Bryan LaHair (Cubs 1B) hit his fourth HR of the season, scoring the only Cubs run in a 5-1 loss to the Cardinals. Video

Travis Dean (Kennesaw State U.)  earned his third win of the season, allowing 5 hits and two earned runs in five innings of work.  Kennesaw beat Savannah State 9-4.  Recap

Nick Friar (Northwestern U.) touched 90mph for the first time in his career: 5IP and 1R. Recap

Max Tishman (Lawrence Academy) threw a complete-game shutout with 16 strikeouts. Recap

John Andreoli (Cubs High-A) had another strong offensive outing, going 2-3 with a walk and a stolen base.  John is now hitting .341 on the season.

Will Inman (Red Sox AAA) tossed a scoreless inning of relief: 1IP, 0R, 1K.  Will’s stats

Murphy Smith & Shawn Haviland (A’s AA) combine for a win/save for the second time this season.  Murphy and Shawn led the Midland RockHounds to a 9-3 victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks.  Box Score

Dan Cellucci (Lincoln-Sudbury HS) went 3-4 with 3 RBI and David McCullough (Lincoln-Sudbury HS) threw 6 innings of scoreless baseball, leading L-S to a 9-3 victory over Concord-Carlisle.

Greg Hemmer threw 9 shutout innings for Framingham, only to see his team lose a hard-fought game to Framingham in 11 innings.  Recap

Smith and Haviland Combine for 3H victory

Cressey Performance Athletes Murphy Smith and Shawn Haviland combined for a 3 hit, 3-2 victory for Oakland AA Affiliate, the Midland RockHounds.  Murphy (1-0) pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits.  Shawn covered the final three innings, allowing a single hit and no runs.  Shawn earned the first save of his professional career.
