High School Baseball Update

LS Baseball –  The Boston Globe featured the quirky pre-game routines for Sid Warrenbrand (known as Eduardo Grande at CP) and Alex Wieland.  These two qualify as the most quirky high school clients to walk through our doors on a daily basis, so there is nothing surprising about hearing they carry the same habits on to the baseball fields.  This is definitely a well-researched story seeing as how they took the time to interview Matt Blake for this piece… Article

CP Week-In-Review

While the spring time is technically “quiet” here at CP, there doesn’t appear to be a shortage of entertainment making its way on to the internet via CP blogs/Facebook/Twitter.  Here’s a quick look at some of the stories, news and antics we’ve seen this week here in Hudson:

Continuing Education:  Chris Howard and Greg Robins attended a course hosted by the folks at the Postural Restoration Institute this past weekend.  In summary, Chris and Greg are now “good at breathing”, and on a mission to make sure our staff and clients are as well.

Applied Concepts:  following the PRI event, Greg took some time to prepare a guest post for EC’s blog, featuring five great tips for postural awareness.  Read It!

More Learning:  As I type this, Eric is a featured speaker at the Fitness Summit in Kansas City.  While he should probably come home excited to teach about all the great things he learned from other presenters, he’s more likely to spend a week or two gloating about the foul ball he caught at the Royals game…

Foulball2

Most Popular QOTD:  Matt Blake once again secured the most “likes” on Facebook when he earned Quote of the Day status by exclaiming: “Not sure if you noticed, but I’m up 9lbs in the past 5-weeks to 191 first thing this morning. I’m basically a scoop of creatine away from 195.”

He also stole EC’s parking spot…

Men’s Health Contribution:  Tony contributed a quick blurb to the May edition of Men’s Health Magazine.  Check out the piece on page 112 featuring “The Most Dangerous Fitness Advice” where Tony gives us all a solid alternative to crunches!

#cpfamily Live on TV:  I’d like to encourage all CP friends/family to tune in to tomorrow’s Vanderbilt – South Carolina baseball game on ESPN3 at 11am.  Tyler Beede will be looking to set a new school record for most wins to start a season, and become the only D1 pitcher in the country with 12 wins.  Good luck, Ty!

CP Baseball Weekend Round-Up

Mike Yastrzemski (Vanderbilt) helped lead the Commodores at the plate, going 5 for 13 with 4RBI in the weekend series.  Mike took a moment to speak with the media following the 3-1 win on Friday night.  Video

Ryan Reid (Pirates AAA) earned a win and lowered his ERA to a 0.60 through 15+ innings of work in 2013.  Ryan allowed 1 hit and no runs in 3 strong innings in a 5-2 win over the Gwinnett Braves.  He is now 4-0 on the season in relief.  Bio

CP Week-In-Review

With the baseball season in full-swing, and the collegiate baseball schedules wrapping up in the coming weeks, things are beginning to get exciting around CP.  As it turns out, the “quiet time of year” at our facility has been not-so-quiet after all in 2013…and we love it!

Here’s a look at some of the news & highlights relating to CP for the past seven days:

Successful Seminar — From April 19-21st, we hosted the most recent installment of the Elite Training Workshops.  The good people from the Fitness Consulting Group lined up an impressive panel of speakers, including our own Eric Cressey and Tony Gentilcore, and the event seemed to be a great success.  Thank you to all who attended.

Team USA Opportunity — Following in the steps of Tim Collins (Pan-Am Games / WBC) and Steve Cishek (WBC), long-time CP athlete Tyler Beede was selected to the Team USA Collegiate Baseball summer roster.  Ty passed on a summer in the Cape in ’12 in favor of a ton of hard work in the gym here at CP, and it appears to have paid off in the form of a 10-0 record at Vanderbilt University along with the prestigious honor of representing his country.  Article

WBC

Summer Baseball Considerations — Along those same lines, Eric published a 3,000+ word piece discussing the factors that should be considered when deciding on summer baseball plans at a collegiate level.  This is a thought-provoking article that all members of the CP-Baseball Family will appreciate.  Read it!

No-Hitters – In the past five days, we’ve seen not one, but TWO no-hitters thrown by CP high-school athletes.  Congratulations to Alex Person who blanked the Brockton HS squad on Monday, and to Kevin Superko, who handled the Milton squad in similar fashion.  Check out the recaps:  Person and Superko

MLB News – CP athletes also left their mark several times this week at the highest levels of professional baseball.  With eight CP guys currently on big league rosters, we do our best to stay on top of their performances.  For a complete list of our athletes playing professional ball, check out our CP Pro Family page.  Here’s a look at a few notable performances from this past week:

MLB

Cory Gearrin (Braves) has managed to post a 0.00 ERA through 10.2 innings (11 appearances), including 5 different scoreless innings in the past seven days.  Stats

Tim Collins (Royals) has allowed just a pair of hits in 5 appearances, striking out 9 through 7.2 innings in 2013.  Tim earned the win in Thursday’s victory over the Tigers with a perfect inning, and two more strikeouts in the 9th inning of a tie game.  Stats

TJ McFarland (Orioles) is holding his own as a rookie in the big leagues, posting a 2.38 ERA through 11.1 innings of work, including a scoreless inning against the Athletics on Thursday.  Stats
